The Edmonton Royals were home to start the home schedule of the 2025-26 Capital Junior Hockey League season by welcoming the Beaumont Chiefs in the first of a back-to-back series with Beaumont.
Royals opened the scoring in the middle of the first period when Kaleb Haskey got in alone on a breakaway and didn’t miss his opportunity and buried his first of the season to give the Royals a 1-0 lead going into intermission.
The Royals then went up 2-0 28 seconds into the second period when Hunter Delf found the back of the net on a beautiful shot from in the corner near the goal line. The Chiefs then pushed back scoring two unanswered goals to tie the game at 2-2. Royals rookie defensemen Owen Howes buried his first Capital Junior Hockey League goal on the power play with 56 seconds left in the period to give the Royals a 3-2 lead heading into the intermission.
Chiefs tied the game halfway through the third period when Owen Stang potted his first of the season. But the Royals wouldn’t be denied the win as Brady Middleton put a shot on goal and it snuck through Chiefs goaltender Cooper Melnychuk to give the Royals the 4-3 lead and the Royals held on the rest of the way killing off all five power play opportunities the Chiefs had in the game. Royals rookie goaltender, Luke Kristiansen stopped 38 of 41 shots to get his first Capital Junior Hockey League win.
The Royals now improve to 2-1-0 on the season while the Chiefs fall to 0-3-0. The Royals will hit the road Friday as they travel to Beaumont to play the second of the back-to-back series at the Ken Nichol Regional Arena. Puck drop will be at 8:00PM.
