Royals fly high over Stony Plain

The Royals were back home at Confederation Wednesday night to take on the Stony Plain Flyers and the Royals didn’t wait long to get the offence started. 

10 seconds into the game, Kaleb Haskey broke his scoring slump as he zipped it past Flyers netminder Ty Radke to make it 1-0. The Flyers came right back five minutes later when Flyers leading scorer Jason Adams handcuffed Royals netminder, Tanner Thomas and beats him gloveside to tie the game at one. Adams tallied another when Thomas had the save made but the puck dribbled out from his pads and Adams crashed the net to put the Flyers up 2-1. 

The lead for the Flyers would last 31 seconds and Royals forward Andrew Bender-Yantha also got out of his scoring slump and buried one past Radke to tie the game at two. Kai Stothart then gave the Royals the lead five minutes later as he buried one past a sprawling Ty Radke. Jaxen Davison would add another tally near the end of the period to make it 4-2 for the Royals at the end of the first. 

No scoring in the second period as teams traded chances back and forth. Royals defenseman, Akaash Johal would score his second goal in as many games to give the Royals a 5-2 lead and never look back. 

Royals forwards Kaleb Haskey and Brady Middleton lead the way offensively for the Royals with three points each, Hunter Delf collected two points on the night. Tanner Thomas, a former affiliate of the Royals who made the team late in the pre-season stopped 46 of 48 shots to collect his first ever win in the Capital Junior Hockey League. Stony Plain falls to 0-6-0 on the season and the Royals improve to 3-4-2 on the season and look to improve their record as they travel to Wetaskiwin on Thanksgiving Sunday to renew their rivalry with the Icemen.
