The Royals concluded their season high three-game home stand as they hosted the North Edmonton Red Wings Sunday night at Confederation Arena in the first of a home-and-home series.
North Edmonton Red Wings opened the scoring in the first when Ahmed Assaf streaked in burying a goal past Royals Goaltender Dawson Ringuette to make it 1-0. Riley Birmingham later made it 2-0 heading into the first intermission.
Royals finally answered in the second period when Jaxen Davison buried his eighth of the season to make it 2-1. Later in the period on the power play, Davison found the back of the net again to make it a 2-2 tie. Before the end of the second period, Bohdi MacDonald restored the Red Wings lead with 1:07 left in the second period.
The third period saw both teams trade chances. With 1:31 left in the game and Ringuette on the bench for an extra attacker, Royals rookie forward Cooper Allan buried a rebound in front of the net to tie the game at three. Fourty seconds later, Jaxen Davison buried his hat-trick goal past a sprawling Blake Zimmerman to give the Royals a 4-3 lead and the Royals would hold on to snap a four-game losing streak. Royals rookie forward, Kai Stothart also added two helpers in the win.
Royals goalie, Dawson Ringuette picks up his third win of the season stopping 34 of 37 shots and improved his record to 3-5-0 on the season. Red Wings goalie Blake Zimmerman sees his record fall to 2-2-0.
Royals improve to 6-10-2 on the season while the Red Wings fall to 9-7-1. The Royals will be back in action Wednesday night at Londonderry Arena as they play the second in the back-to-back series against the Red Wings. Puck drop goes at 7:45 PM
