The Royals were back on the ice as they travelled to Londonderry Arena to take on the North Edmonton Red Wings in the second of a back-to-back series Wednesday night.
Royals took the 1-0 lead 36 seconds into the first period when Kai Stothart came in and cleaned up the garbage to pot his sixth goal of the season. Akaash Johal picked up the assist to get his 12th point of the season, which is a team high amongst defensemen. Red Wings would strike back nearly halfway through the first when Jake Malkewich sniped his eighth of the season tying the game at ones heading into the second period.
Nearly three minutes into the second period, Royals rookie forward Brogan Fischer collected his first Capital Junior Hockey League goal on a nifty pass from Jackson Krochak to give the Royals the 2-1 lead. Red Wings would answer back with a goal of their own from Cedar Vanderkley on the power play to tie the game at two. Royals fell into penalty trouble halfway through the period, but the Royals PK which is top five in the league flexed its muscles and showed its offensive prowess when Brady Middleton scored his fourth of the season and first short handed on a great forecheck, winning the pick battle in the corner and driving to the net to give the Royals a 3-2 lead. 27 seconds later, Jackson Krochak would get sent on a partial break and would make no mistake as he buried it past Red Wings goaltender, Reid Lalonde to make it 4-2 on his seventh of the season and his first shorty of the year. Nearly five minutes later, Alex Bischof would drive the net and deposit the rebound past a sprawling Lalonde for his first on the campaign to make it 5-2. Twenty seconds later, Andrew Bender-Yantha gets a breakaway and snipes it past Lalonde for his tenth of the season to put the Royals up 6-2. Red Wings would score two quick ones after that courtesy of Tyler Bennett and Malkewich, his second of the game to make it 6-4 at the end of the second period.
The Red Wings came out with a big offensive push in the third period, Jake Malkewich would score his third of the game eight minutes into the third period to make it 6-5. But that’s as close as they would get as Brady Middleton would bury his second of the game with two and a half minutes left to seal the victory for the Royals.
Jackson Krochak lead the way offensively for the Royals with a goal and two assists. Brady Middleton, Alex Bischof, Kai Stothart and Brogan Fischer would all collect two points in the win. Royals netminder Dawson Ringuette turned away 39 of 44 shots to get his fourth win in the season, improving his record to 4-5-0. Red Wings netminder Reid Lalonde stopped 37 of 44 in the loss, dropping his record to an even 7-7-0.
The Royals improve to 7-10-2 on the season and look for their third win in a row Sunday, November 16th at home as they welcome the Strathcona Bruins to Confederation Arena. Puck drop goes at 7:45 PM.
